Syrp Genie II App.

Syrp were in their second year when they approached us to design their latest time lapse control device for cinematographers. We worked with their team to understand the device and it’s value, then iterated to create a simple interface that would enable control of their rather complex device with ease from a smartphone.

Many iterations were needed to figure out the best approach for the user. Our solution was a simple dial where the user would drag a their finger around a circle to mark the angle of the rotation they wanted, then dial in the intervals and total time for the time lapse. We were also able to use this interface to deal with multiple rotation angles, giving the user the ability to create movements on three different axis - a world first.

Results.

The success of the Genie II and other products fueled Syrp’s growth, leading to them being acquired by an international product company. They have continued to use and iterate on our original design solution since. This is a good example of doing things right, doing them once. Well considered, tested design stands up to product and market evolution.
